Clark Street elevators

The Sun reported this morning that the elevators in the Clark Street subway broke down 400 times over the past two years. FABULOUS! Apparently riders have been trapped inside the elevators more than 20 times and the temperatures inside the elevators have been known to rise about 100 degrees. I CAN’T WAIT FOR THE SUMMER! I really need to start training to walk up the 80 foot emergency staircase.

Another fun Clark Street subway fun fact:
According to a former City Council member who represented the neighborhood, the original freight-style elevators at the station were built with leftover parts from a WWII aircraft carrier.

The elevators that are there now were installed in 2000, but problems continue.

Uggh! Trapped in an elevator would be no fun, definitely get working on those stairs! One question -- do the Clark Street elevators smell as bad as the Woodley Park Metro elevator?

Did you ever go through the Rosslyn station (blue & orange) in DC? Because in the summer those elevators broke down on a very regular basis-- at the very least once a week. And that staircase is, well, a workout :-) Think of it as your after-work exercise program

Yes, Rosslyn is long!! So is Woodley Park! I have to say though that the Clark Street elevators do smell better than the Woodley Park elevators...then again the actual stations (all of them) in New York, smell 10 times worse than in DC...and we haven't even had warm weather yet!
